
The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka this year has exceeded 46,000, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
The Acting Director of the unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara said 46,037 dengue cases have been reported from January to date.
He noted that between 600 and 650 new cases are being recorded daily at present.
Dr. Kannangara further stated that 12,196 cases were reported in June alone so far, describing it as the highest number of dengue cases recorded within a single month.
He added that, by province, the Western Province accounts for the highest share of dengue cases at 51.75%, followed by the Southern Province at 16.16%, Sabaragamuwa at 9.35%, Central Province at 7.23%, and the Eastern Province at 5.05%.
